Originally from Crete, Haridimos Hatzidakis came to Santorini after graduating from the Technical School of Wine and Beverages in Athens in 1991. In 1997, he and his wife, Konstantina, started their own estate using Kostantina’s family’s vineyards in the village of Pyrgos Kallistis. After extensive re-planting and revitalization of the older vines, they converted a cave on the outskirts of Pyrgos Kallistis, into their winery. Over the years, Hatzidakis became the island's first cult winery, producing wines of purity and power that are authentic, terroir-driven expressions of Santorini. In 2017, Haridimos died tragically, leaving the winery in the hands of his children. His daughter, Stella, kept his vision alive, and today, the estate is led by an all-female team that continues to produce some of the most exciting and compelling wines in Greece.
Akra Chryssos is a blend of 80% Assyrtiko, 10% Aidani and 10% Athiri Maiden vintage from 200 year old vines grown in the Lourous vineyard and fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine is absolutely brilliant with explosive minerality on the palate and an electric acidity that works beautifully with the saline, sea-breeze and savory citrus fruit flavors that cascade into a long, zesty and complex finish. Stunning.
