Joao Paul Gouveia is a viticulturist who works with many properties in Portugal's Dão region. Pedro Cancela is his family's vineyards which are situated on the slopes above the Dão River. Most of the vineyard is planted to the red grapes Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Jaen, and Roriz. He also grows Encruzado and Mavasia Fina for white wines. His wines are highly polished, modern examples of the great quality that can be had in this region of Portugal.
The Pedra Cancela Dão Branco is a blend of 40% Encruzado, 30% Cerceal-Branco, and 30% Malvasia-Fina. The wine is a great mix of powerful minerality and weight from the Encruzado grape balanced by ripe fruit and floral flavors coming from the Malvasia. Refreshing while also delivering weight, this Portuguese white is great with salty fish dishes or sipped by itself on a warm day.
