In 1894, Ferdinand Charleux founded what would eventually become Domaine Maurice Charleux & Fils in Dezize-les-Maranges south west of Santenay, at the southern border of the Côte d'Or in Burgundy. In 1970, Maurice took over the vineyards and began selling wine under his own name, eventually handing the reins to his son Vincent who currently is in charge. Today, the domaine covers just under 10 hectares of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines that are farmed sustainably, producing less than a miniscule 3,500 cases per year.
Charleux's Bourgogne Rouge is made from 100% Pinot Noir grown in clay/limestone soils. The grapes are destemmed, cold-soaked for 3-5 days and fermented with native yeasts in cement tanks or foudres. This charming wine is bright, aromatic and refreshing with aromas and flavors of fresh red berries, earth and an alluring floral note. Enjoy with a ham and brie sandwich on fresh baked baguette.
