The Ferraris estate — established by Stefano Ferraris in 1923 — is situated in the municipality of Agliano Terme in the heart of the historic zone of Barbera d'Asti. The soil and microclimate of Asti seem perfectly matched to the Barbera grape, and as a result, growers in the region plant Barbera in their best vineyard sites.

From the turret of Roberto Ferraris’ cantina you can see an endless panorama of vineyards situated on the nearby sloping hills. Roberto's Barbera vineyards are the steepest of all, wonderfully exposed to the morning sun. The estate is comprised of twelve sustainably-farmed, low-yielding vineyards. Roberto's vines are old (some 80+ years of age) and are deeply rooted in sandy, calcareous soil. With these ideal conditions, his Barbera d'Asti hits its full stride.

In the glass, this 100% Barbera displays an inky-purple color with garnet highlights. Aromas of fresh raspberries, cherries and blackberries explode from the glass with a wonderful undertone of fresh earth and spice. The palate displays a luscious concentration of juicy and lively fruits that pirouette across the tongue effortlessly, leading to an invigorating finish. A smooth and energetic mouthfeel combine with a perfect balance of fruit, earth and spice combine to present a Barbera that is a textbook highlight of the exceptional terroir of Asti: vibrant, mineral and impressively long. It’s a versatile red that pairs with everything, yet just as delicious on its own. For pairings, try with a plate of cured meats and artisanal cheeses, mushroom ravioli or veal chops.
