After working as a social worker in the busy city of Lyon, Olivier Pichon took a stage with friend and vigneron Thierry Forestier in Souvignargues, a small village located between the Cevennes and the Camargue, 20km from Nimes in the Languedoc. Olivier worked with Thierry from 2015 until 2018, when Olivier began making his own wine. Olivier currently farms 4 hectares of Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Syrah and Grenache Blanc planted on sandstone slopes in an area heavily influenced by Mount Aigoual and the Cevennes, which provide a wide diurnal temperature shift. Most vines are pruned in goblet and the vineyards are farmed organically. All grapes are hand-harvested and vinified in the simplest, most natural and non-interventionist way possible.
Domaine la Grange Saint André Le Marmot is a blend of 80% Cinsault, 15% Grenache, and 5% Carignan from a two-hectare plot of vines planted on clay-limestone and sandy-clay soils. The vines are over 30 years old; hand-harvested, pressed, and fermented with whole cluster in stainless steel tank. The result is a light Cinsault with excellent fresh red fruit intensity and a light peppery quality with great refreshment and lift. Serve with a slight chill and enjoy alongside pork meatballs or grilled swordfish.
