Roberto Ferraris "Nobbio" - Barbera d'Asti 2023
The Ferraris estate — established by Stefano Ferraris in 1923 — is situated in the municipality of Agliano Terme in the heart of the historic zone of Barbera d'Asti. The soil and microclimate of Asti seem perfectly matched to the Barbera grape, and as a result, growers in the region plant Barbera in their best vineyard sites.
From the turret of Roberto Ferraris’ cantina you can see an endless panorama of vineyards situated on the nearby sloping hills. Roberto's Barbera vineyards are the steepest of all, wonderfully exposed to the morning sun. The estate is comprised of twelve sustainably-farmed, low-yielding vineyards. Roberto's vines are old (some 80+ years of age) and are deeply rooted in sandy, calcareous soil. With these ideal conditions, his Barbera d'Asti hits its full stride.
Nobbio is a single vineyard of 80-year old plants of very distinctive, extremely concentrated Barbera. It is one of the best crus in all of southern Piedmont for this traditional variety. Nobbio is vinified in stainless steel vats to retain the wine's pristine fruit aromas and primary flavors. The wine pours a dark ruby red with a garnet rim, offering notes of ripe plum and blackberries accented with notes of violets and a hint of spice. The palate is intense and full of juicy black fruits that are supported by considerable structure, complex texture and great balance. This Barbera finishes smooth and minutes-long. Enjoy with tomato-based pasta dishes, pizza or for a treat, roast pork loin with sautéed wild mushrooms.
