The small domaine of Henri and Paul Jacqueson had been the jewel of Rully for a considerable time. Paul Jacqueson followed in his father Henri’s footsteps, keeping the Burgundian village of Rully firmly on the viticultural map in the excellent value area of the Côte Chalonnaise. Today, Paul continues to push the envelope of quality, a feat of well over 50 years. His daughter Marie now joins him in the vineyards and winery, after completing her studies in the renowned viticultural school in Beaune. Paul is known for an almost obsessive, meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of the domaine, a trait which he is passing down to Marie.
Jacqueson's Mercurey rouge pours a bright ruby red into the glass. This 100% Pinot Noir offers a mix of black cherry and bramble berries (raspberry and blackberry) on the nose accented with notes of forest floor. The palate is focused and lean, providing mouthwatering, tart fruit that is supported by a delightful minerality and moderate tannins. This Mercurey finishes with the perfect amount of acidity which calls you back to the glass for your next sip. This wine would be an outstanding accompaniment to Duck à l'Orange, though it will pair just as well with most lighter meat dishes.
