von Donabaum is a small side project from Volker Donabaum. Volker grew up in and among the vines at his family’s estate in the Wachau, where his family has made wine for over 200 years. Today, he runs Volker Wine Company with the goal of championing honest, visionary producers. Volker’s enduring friendships from over twenty years of harvest work around the world have helped him discover authentic wines and bring them to an American audience.
The von Donabaum Grüner Veltliner is sourced from organically-farmed vines of at least 10 years of age grown in soils of sandstone and loam. Spontaneously fermented, the wine sees three months of rest on its lees. This is a clear and crisp representation of Grüner, showcasing lovely aromas of green apple, white stone fruit and an enticing combination of white pepper and jasmine. The palate is vibrant and lean, displaying a bright concentration of tree fruits complemented by notes of lemon zest, wet slate and fine herbs. This is perfect companion for vegetable-based dishes… Stuffed artichokes, ratatouille or for a real treat, try with fried eggs over spring/summer vegetable hash.
