Jean-Hubert Delon acquired Château Nénin in 1997 when he purchased it from his cousins, the Despujol family, who owned the estate since 1847. Jean-Hubert immediately set to revamping the property. Pruning and trellising methods were revised, the land was drained and vines were analyzed, then replanted or uprooted. All the equipment was modernized in both the vineyard and the cellar. The cellars were extended and completely re-outfitted, including the addition of air conditioning. A new vat room was installed complete with state-of-the-art equipment, thus completing the total transformation of the property. Today, Château Nenin's vineyard area extend across over 32 hectares planted to 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon on the prized Pomerol soils of clay and gravel.
Château Nenin's Grand Vin is only produced from the best parcels — eight hectares of the largest clay and gravel terroirs located on the Pomerol plateau. Château Nenin — composed of 68% Merlot and 32% Cabernet Franc — pours a deep, dark purple, almost black. The wine presents a beautiful nose of red and black fruits mixed with notes of crushed rock and violets. The medium- to full-bodied palate displays an incredible combination of power and elegance, showcasing mouth-watering flavors of black raspberry, cherry and a touch of cassis. This Bordeaux is well-balanced, possessing a seamless marriage of taut acidity and extremely well-integrated tannins. The finish is long, refined and exhibits a divine purity of fruit. An excellent companion for grilled or roasted red meats.
