After studying wine at Vienna and Montpellier, Erwin Tinhof completed a stint at the legendary Mas de Daumas-Gassac estate in southern France. He then returned home to farm the 14 hectares of vineyards that have been passed down through his family for 11 generations. The property is situated on the slopes of the Leitha Mountains in the city of Eisenstadt. Edwin been farming organically since 2008 and the estate received its certification in 2012. He carefully dry-farms the estate, which is home to vines that are up to 60 years of age. There is no use of insecticides, herbicides or artificial fertilizers, and after hand-harvesting the grapes, the wines are all made with minimal intervention in the cellar.
A hand selection of noble varietals, such as Pinot Blanc, Neuburger, Riesling and Muscat Ottonel create this gorgeous, "sherry-like" wine. Fine aromas of fino Sherry, marzipan and dried tropical fruits blend pleasantly with the round mid-palate, giving way to a harmonious, yet appetizing and lengthy finish. Recommended pairings are small plates of dried fruits, almonds, and a variety of cheeses, though it can be enjoyed solely as an aperitif.
