Kozlovic Teran 2022
Kozlovic is family winery that started in 1904 in the Valle Valley of Istria, Croatia. The estate has been passed down from generation to generation, and the importance of family is at the center of what Kozlovic does. The vineyards are planted to the local varietals Malvazija, Muscat Momiano, Muscat Rose and Teran and grown on the hills of Valle, Santa Lucia and Kontarini on clay soils known locally as "Terra Bianca" (a mix of flysch, limestone and white clay). The vines are grown sustainably with minimal spraying and all grapes are hand-harvested.
Teran is a Croatian specialty; the grape produces wines with an abundance of acidity and tannins. Kozlovic sun-dries a portion of his Teran grapes on hay (thereby reducing their acidity) after making several passes through the vineyard. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel and aged in large oak barrels for 12 months. The resulting wine has an exquisite texture and mouthfeel. Flavors of black tea, sour cherry and balsamic drift across the palate as they intermingle with black fruits that dominate the lively and long finish. Enjoy this wine with meatballs in sauce, meat lasagna, rabbit and hearty stews.
