Truchard Vineyards is a small, family-owned winery in the Carneros region of Napa Valley. Proprietors Tony and Jo Ann Truchard have managed a successful vineyard and grown exceptional grapes for nearly 40 years. The estate consists of nearly 400 contiguous acres (of which 280 acres are planted with 12 different grape varietals) in the north-east corner of Carneros on a wide variety of soils types and exposures. Through their hard work and devotion to this unique property, the Truchard family helped pioneer grape growing in the Carneros region of Napa. In 1989, the Truchards established a winery and began producing wines using only their estate-grown fruit. 80% of the vines are sustainably grown, the other 20% are organic; the vineyards and winery are certified Napa Green, the estate is certified Fish Friendly Farming, and they use 100% renewable energy.

Truchard's Cabernet Sauvignon is from 20-42 year-old vines planted in several different sites on steep, southwestern facing hillsides. Deep ruby color with purple highlights, the nose shows luscious aromas of raspberry, plum and cassis with a touch of cedar and vanilla. The palate displays layers of flavor: ripe cherries, red currants and berry jam with a rich mouthfeel balanced by soft tannins that lead into a long, spicy finish with great depth of flavor. Enjoy with grilled strip steak.

Perfumed aromas of wild blackberries, violets and and tobacco leaves. The palate is full-bodied with firm tannins and acidity, giving notes of blackcurrants, cedar and dried herbs. Needs time for the tannins to soften. Drinkable now, but best from 2028.

A good value play, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate reveals pretty cassis, black cherry, spring flowers, and spicy oak nuances. Medium-bodied and nicely balanced on the palate, with fine tannins and a good finish, this juicy, elegant Cabernet is impeccably made and will drink well over the coming 7-8 years.
