Weingut Stefan Meyer - Buntsandstein Riesling 2025

The Meyer family has called Rhodt, a charming village in Germany’s southern Pfalz, home since the 1700s, but it wasn’t until 1950 that Karl Hermann Meyer founded the family winery and began bottling wine under his own name. Today, Stefan Meyer represents the third generation at the helm of this 16-hectare estate, carrying forward what he calls the “powerful tradition” established by his father and grandfather while embracing thoughtful innovation and modern winemaking techniques. The vineyards are situated in Rhodt unter Rietburg at the edge of the Palatinate Forest, where the combination of a warm, sunny climate and diverse sandstone soils provides ideal conditions for producing wines of ripe fruit, freshness and remarkable balance. All vineyard work is conducted organically, with the estate currently working toward Ecovin certification, while in the cellar Stefan allows his wines to ferment spontaneously, relying on native yeasts to preserve their individuality and build greater depth and complexity. The result is a collection of beautifully expressive Pfalz wines that marry the richness of the region with a remarkable sense of purity and finesse.

The Buntsandstein Riesling from Stefan Meyer pours a brilliant light yellow in the glass, opening with an inviting bouquet of ripe orchard and stone fruits layered with delicate exotic flowers and a subtle hint of petrol. On the palate, green apple, juicy Mirabelle plum and white peach unfold with remarkable clarity, carried by lively acidity and a graceful, beautifully balanced texture. As the wine opens, a subtle stony character emerges, leading to a long, refreshing finish marked by cool minerality and just enough fruit to keep you reaching for another sip. A wonderfully versatile Riesling for the table, it is an ideal partner for seafood such as shrimp scampi, sole fillet with caper butter or pan-seared scallops, while its bright acidity and fruit-forward character make it equally delicious with pork schnitzel, roast pork with apples or Zwiebelkuchen (German caramelized onion tart).
