Founded in 1984, Weingut Markus Molitor is one of Mosel’s most respected and ambitious family-owned estates. Based in Bernkastel-Wehlen, the estate farms more than 100 hectares of vineyards with holdings in many of Mosel’s finest sites including the celebrated Zeltinger Sonnenuhr and Wehlener Sonnenuhr. While Markus Molitor is best known for his extraordinary Rieslings, the estate also produces compelling Pinot Noir, or Spätburgunder, from carefully selected vines. Meticulous vineyard work, low yields and a commitment to expressing the character of each site define Molitor’s approach. His wines are renowned for their precision, purity and remarkable ability to marry intensity with finesse.

The 2022 Markus Molitor Haus Klosterberg Pinot Noir is an exceptionally elegant and silky expression of German Spätburgunder, offering a wonderfully pure and lifted aromatic profile of bright red berries, cherries, and wild berries accented by subtle floral notes and delicate savory spice. On the palate, it is remarkably graceful and vibrant, with beautifully fine tannins, refreshing acidity and layers of ripe raspberry, red cherry, cranberry and earthy forest-floor character. There is a lovely Burgundian sensibility to its balance and texture, with impressive depth and persistence without ever feeling heavy. This is an utterly delicious Pinot Noir that can be enjoyed beautifully on its own but will shine alongside roast chicken, duck breast, pork tenderloin, mushroom risotto or grilled salmon.
