Vigneti Vumbaca's inception was in 1984 with the purchase of six hectares (two planted to vine) in the Cirò municipality of Calabria. Christian Vumbaca's mother and uncle made this purchase to pursue a hobby, while it planted a seed as Christian fondly remembers his younger years among the vines. Fast forward a decade or so, Christian surprisingly abandons his law profession in Rome to return to his childhood home to pursue his dream. Today, Christian organically farms six hectares of vineyards grown on sandy- and clayey-calcareous soil, planted to Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco.
Radiant ruby in the glass, this organically farmed Gaglioppo is immediately expressive with aromas of ripe cherry, wild strawberry and red plum, interwoven with dried rose, sweet spices and a subtle Mediterranean herbal note. The palate is vibrant and finely structured, balancing juicy red fruit with refreshing acidity and refined, chalky tannins. Notes of crushed stone and savory earth emerge on the persistent finish, lending depth and distinct Calabrian character. Elegant rather than powerful, it is a beautifully authentic expression of Cirò that highlights the purity and finesse of this historic southern Italian appellation. Prosciutto and aged Pecorino, grilled sausage and peppers, roasted pork loin, herb-marinated lamb chops or grilled ribeye.
