Mas Macià is a historic Cava-producing estate owned by the renowned Bohigas family. The 300-hectare property is located in the town of Òdena in the Anoia River valley, about 45 minutes west of Barcelona. The Bohigases have a deeply-rooted winemaking history that traces back to the 13th century. Today, the estate is owned and managed by Jordi Casanovas Bohigas and his daughter Maria who crafts Mas Macià’s captivating Cavas. The father-daughter duo ecologically farms (with organic practices) 110 hectares of vineyards planted to Catalonia’s historic and indigenous varietals of Xarel-lo, Macabeo and Parallada for whites and Trepat for red. Their eco-conscious farming emphasizes low yields and meticulous vineyard management ensuring healthy, expressive fruit, while their limestone-rich soils lend freshness, tension and mineral precision to their wines. Mas Macià’s Cavas showcase their revered terroir and varietal character while exhibiting a tremendous balance of vibrance and richness with refined mousse, astounding purity and elegance.
To the eye it presents a pale yellow colour with straw tones. Clean, bright, fine bubbles with a complete ring of foam. Complex nose, with mixed bouquets of green citrus fruits, tree fruits, apple, light toasted aromas and dried fruits, green almond, hints of patisserie, balsamic, with empyreumatic nuances and reminiscences of fresh grass. Very dry on the palate, smooth and pleasant carbonic sensation, with good acid-body balance. Fresh, frank and rich in flavours. Notes of citrus, sight tastes of nuts, with an elegant backdrop of great intensity. Excellent retronasal pathway. Pale yellow with green highlights. Aromas recalling the white fruit typical of the three basic Penedès varieties: Macabeu, Xarel·lo and Parellada. Dominated by fresh fruitiness overlying the slight toastiness and sandalwood of ageing. Vigorous and fresh on the palate, bubble present and well integrated, giving nerve to the whole that is outstanding for the luminosity of white fruit from good care of the grape. Appetizers, snacks, starters and meat.
