Description

Founded by Irène Prioton in the medieval village of Caunes-Minervois, Le Clos du Marbrier is a small, organically farmed (since 2001) estate where every bottle reflects an intensely hands-on philosophy. Scattered among schist, limestone, sandstone and clay soils stretching from the garrigue to the foothills of the Montagne Noire, each parcel is harvested by hand and vinified separately with a gentle touch to preserve its individual character. The estate's vineyards are planted to classic southern French red varieties including Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and the rare Castets, alongside a diverse collection of white grapes — Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, Terret Blanc, Vermentino and Petite Arvine — that thrive in the region's warm Mediterranean climate. Working from a former marble workshop transformed into her cellar, Irène crafts expressive, site-driven wines that marry the wild beauty of the Minervois with remarkable finesse, freshness and authenticity.

À Main Levèe translates to "freehand", a nod to Irène's intensive farming philosophy. Her Minervois rouge — a blend of 60% Cinsault complemented with equal parts Grenache and Carignan — pours a luminous ruby color. This is a wonderfully vibrant Minervois that emphasizes elegance over power. The nose erupts with freshly crushed strawberries, red currants, wild raspberries and pomegranate, layered with hints of thyme, rosemary, white pepper and Mediterranean garrigue. The palate is silky, energetic and beautifully lifted, combining juicy red fruit with bright acidity and supple, finely textured tannins. A subtle mineral edge carries through the long, savory finish, making this a remarkably versatile food red. Enjoy with charcuterie with chèvre and Tomme de Savoie, Provençal roasted vegetables, grilled swordfish, roasted chicken or herb-marinated pork tenderloin.
