Description

Eugenia Luka grew up among the vines, working with her father Roberto Luka, the founder of Finca Sophenia, the esteemed estate winery located in Gualtallary, Mendoza, Argentina. While Eugenia's side project — E's Vino — keeps her busy, she still has a hand in every aspect of production at Finca Sophenia. Roberto — former president of Wines of Argentina — founded the renowned estate in 1997 and in just seven years was distributing his stellar wines to over 25 countries. Finca Sophenia's vines are planted across 130 hectares in soils of rocky sand irrigated by the thaw from the Andes. The estate crafts terroir-driven wines from Argentine varietals Bonarda, Criolla and Torrontés along with international varietals Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Syrah and Cabernet Franc for the reds and Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for the whites. Finca Sophenia's wines uniquely represent their origins of Gualtallary, Tupungato and the Uco Valley.

The Malbec and Cabernet that compose the AntiSynthesis are co-fermented with indigenous yeast in 500 L French oak barrel where they are aged for 12 months. In the glass, this stunning wine shows a deep, luminous ruby core with violet reflections at the rim, hinting at both its mountain freshness and concentrated fruit. The nose is immediately captivating, with black cherry, wild blackberry and macerated plum intertwined with layers of violet, dried herbs, cedar and a subtle mineral note that evokes the stony soils of Gualtallary. With air, the wine becomes even more intricate, revealing touches of cassis, cocoa, tobacco and a savory edge that speaks to the Cabernet vines still woven through the vineyard. The palate displays remarkable tension and harmony. The plush, dark-fruited generosity of Malbec swaddles the Cabernet backbone — fine-grained tannins, lifted acidity and a subtle structural firmness that gives the wine shape and drive. There is real power here, but it never feels heavy… the fruit is vibrant and precise, the texture silky yet structured and the finish long, mineral, and beautifully persistent. What makes AntiSynthesis so compelling is that it drinks like a symphony between two varieties grown as one organism: expressive, unpredictable and deeply rooted in place.

This is not simply another Argentine red. AntiSynthesis is a rare field blend born from a vineyard accident yet preserved by intention, capturing a singular moment in the life of the vines and the vision of Eugenia Luka. Wines like this do not come along often: they combine originality, terroir transparency and serious cellar potential in one bottle. Eugenia’s 2023 AntiSynthesis offers something increasingly rare in the modern wine world… authenticity you can taste.
