Felix - Blaufränkisch 1L 2023

The Wellanschitz family can trace their history growing grapes in the Burgenland back to the 1800s. One of Austria’s great growing families, they also were early champions of the Blaufränkisch grape, bottling their first mono-varietal wine nearly 80 years ago. Blaufränkisch is their passion: “a precise, distinctive wine that is indigenous and unmistakable.” Stefan has inherited that passion, utilizing organic viticulture to showcase the beautiful character of both his land and this venerable grape. Stefan’s Felix wines represent a “selfie” of his vines and grapes – a peek into what is possible when outstanding fruit is cared for by a true farming family that has always strived to respect the land given to them.

The 2023 Felix Blaufränkisch pours a brilliant ruby red offering alluring aromas of just-ripe berries and red stone fruits tinged with hints of crack black pepper and dusty spice. This medium-bodied beauty is packed with vibrant flavors of blueberries, tart raspberries and Bing cherry. Buoyed by a lovely acidity and soft, smooth tannins, the Felix Blau is an absolute pleasure to drink from first sip to its lip-smacking finish. For a refreshing treat, this red can be enjoyed with a slight chill on a warm day. Pair with a plate of cured meat and assorted cheeses, light pasta dishes or anything off the grill.
