Fattoria Agriturismo Il Colombaio - "Contessa Ava" Chianti 2022

Fattoria Agriturismo il Colombaio, an historic 70 hectare estate located in the heart of the Chianti countryside, sits on the Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrimage route to Rome. The property has historical records dating back to the mid-1800’s and in 1897, it was awarded an honor for the quality of their wines by the Municipality of Montereggioni. Today, il Colombaio is managed by fourth generation owner and winemaker, Marco Mangelli. Marco organically farms (practicing) seventeen hectares of vines — planted to Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc for the reds and Trebbiano for whites — with great passion and dedication to tradition. The goal is to communicate the estate’s unique terroir through their expertly crafted wines, with each one expressing their love of Tuscany.

The Il Colombaio Contessa Ava is made from 100% Sangiovese that is hand-harvested and fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. The wine displays delicate aromas of sour black cherries and violets. On the palate it is full bodied with smooth tannins and a tight acidity which frames flavors of currants and strawberries. Enjoy with meat sauces or full-flavored fish dishes featuring tomatoes.
