For generations, the Large family has cultivated vines in the heart of Morgon, one of Beaujolais' most celebrated crus. Today, Jean-Pierre Large continues the family's tradition from his estate in Villié-Morgon, crafting wines that showcase the depth, structure and age-worthy character that have made Morgon renowned among Gamay lovers. His vineyards are rooted in the appellation's granite and schist-rich soils, including the historic Les Délys lieu-dit — the nexus of the Large family, where Jean-Pierre's father and grandfather were born and where some vines planted by his grandfather are now more than 120 years old. Traditional semi-carbonic maceration, minimal intervention and patient élevage allow each parcel to speak with clarity, producing terroir-driven wines that balance vibrant fruit with earthy complexity.
Jean Pierre’s Les Délys Morgon pours a radiant ruby red in the glass, opening with expressive aromas of wild blackberry, macerated strawberry, black cherry and crushed violets, accented by hints of forest floor, granite and light spice. The palate is beautifully layered, combining the exuberant freshness of Gamay with the concentration and earthy depth that define great Morgon. Silky tannins frame juicy dark berry fruit, while bright acidity and subtle mineral notes carry through a long, savory finish. Both approachable in its youth and capable of rewarding several years of cellaring, this is a classic expression of one of Morgon's finest lieux-dits. Pair with Charcuterie and pâté, roasted chicken with herbs, seared duck breasts with a cherry reduction or grilled pork tenderloin. This Morgon would also be a tremendous accompaniment to classic Côte de Bœuf.
