Description

The Perrachon family has been involved in the wine trade since 1601, when they first settled in Juliénas in Beaujolais. Today, Laurent Perrachon and his wife Martine, along with his children, Maxime and Adrien (the sixth generation to work in the family business), run the domaine, which began producing estate wines in 1877. The vineyards consists of 26 hectares in six of the ten Beaujolais Crus: Juliénas (where they are still based), Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Fleurie, Chénas and Saint-Amour. The Perrachons have one of the most extensive and comprehensive Cru holdings among independent producers in Beaujolais. In addition to the Crus, the family also makes Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages; red, white and rosé. All grapes are hand-harvested and the wines are fermented with native yeasts, then aged in their vaulted cellars which were built in 1701!

The Domaine des Perelles Chénas is made from 100% Gamay grown in granite and sandy soils. Chénas is the smallest of the 10 Beaujolais Crus, named after the oak trees that used to grow where the vines are now planted. The grapes come from the En Champagne plot, one of the most prized sites in the Cru, from 65 year-old vines which are fermented in stainless steel and aged for 12 months in oak foudres. Ripe black fruits, violets and a distinct woodsy undertone feature on the nose and the palate. Silky smooth tannins and bright acidity showcase why these wines are referred to as "a bouquet of flowers in a velvet basket." Enjoy with pulled pork tacos, meat in a rich sauce or strong cheeses.
