Diamantis Winery - Magoutes Vineyard Xinomavro Blanc 2024

Located in Siatista in the mountainous hinterland of Macedonia, Dimitri Diamantis tirelessly works to craft beautiful wines from the rocky, limestone terroir of his vineyards from local grapes like Xinomavro and the rare Moschomavor and Nigrikiotiko. It was Dimitri's grandfather, who hand-grafted the region's first Xinomavro vines, though by the 1970's most of his vineyards had become dilapidated. In the early 1990's Dimitrios focused on resurecting these ancient vines, and in 2002 he produced his first wine, a Xinomavro Moschomavro blend. Today, he and his business partner, George Papageorgiou, work to rescue Siatista's other vineyards and reclaim the region's viticultural history, while also trying to have Siatista recognized as a Greek appellation. All vineyard work is organic and the winemaking is low-intervention with spontaneous fermentations to allow the native grapes and terroir to speak for themselves.
