Château Puygueraud, located in the Francs-Côtes de Bordeaux subregion of Bordeaux, is the childhood home of Nicolas Thienpont, the legendary Bordeaux proprietor who manages, among other estates, Vieux Château Certan in Pomeral and Château Pavie-Macquin in Saint-Émilion. In 1946, George Thienpont purchased Château Puygueraud, which originally was dedicated to polyculture, of which grapes were part of the production. Starting in the 1970's the Thienpont family replanted the land to vineyards, and in 1983 they produced their first vintage. Today, Nicolas and his son, Cyrille, together work the vineyards and craft this exceptional Francs-Côtes de Bordeaux.
The vineyards of Puygueraud are located on a rocky plateau that is one of the highest elevations in the right bank of Bordeaux. The soils consist of clay and limestone and are planted to Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec for reds and Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris for whites. The Grand Vin comes from the plateau slopes overlooking the Côtes de Francs. The wine is rich and elegant with structured tannins and a lovely nose of fruit and spice. Enjoy now, but you can age and enjoy this over the next 5-10 years.
