The history of Château Lynch-Bages begins with Thomas Lynch and the "Batges" vineyard. Lynch owned the land starting in 1749 and worked very hard to make quality wine that he sold as "Cru de Lynch" which earned classification as a Cinquième Cru, or 5th Growth, in the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux. In the 1930's Jean "Lou Janou" Cazes purchased the estate which has been in family hands since then.
Château Lynch-Bages has over 100 hectares of vineyards planted throughout the commune of Pauillac. The wines of Lynch-Bages are usually over 70% Cabernet Sauvingnon with the balance being made up of Merlot and Cabernet Franc and a very small amount of Petit Verdot. These are year in and year out some of the best wines to come out of Pauillac, regardless of the vintage conditions.
98 Points — Jeb Dunnuck
“…inky purple hue is followed by a sensational Pauillac that has a blockbuster (and classic Lynch-Bages) style in its darker currants, smoke tobacco, lead pencil, and crushed stone-driven aromatics. These carry to a full-bodied, powerful, massively concentrated 2022 that has a dense, layered mid-palate, velvety tannins, flawless balance, and a rare mix of power and elegance. This is a château that’s clearly firing on all cylinders”
