Description

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is in the heart of the Sauternes region, on high ground just outside the village of Bommes. The estate's history stretches back to the Romans and there are still remains on the estate from the 13th century. In the 1855 Sauternes Classification, Lafaurie-Peyraguey was ranked as a Premier Grand Cru Classé. Neighbors with Château d'Yquem, Lafaurie-Peyraguey's 36 hectares of vineyards are planted on gravel soils over a substratum of Aquitania limestone. The grapes for the Grand Vin come from the Enclos and Maisons Rouges plots, the historic heart of the estate.

The 2001 vintage produced excellent Sauternes, and Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is no exception. The wine has aged beautifully showcasing masses of sweet stone fruits, honey, warming spices and crème brûlée aromas with a density, richness and complex layering of flavors that is mesmerizing. Long finish that shows great power and depth, enjoy with a plate of assorted cheeses or as dessert on its own.
