Château Hostin le Roc - Bordeaux Rouge 2019

The origins of Château Hostin Le Roc can be traced back to 1750, where, on an old map requested by Montesquieu when he bought the castle of Bisqueytan, it shows the neighbouring property of sieur Hostens. In 1972, André and Renée Boutinon created Château Hostin Le Roc, even though their family had been farming their vineyards in Nérigean and Saint Quentin de Baron for four generations. After over 40 years in charge, Catherine and Jerome Boutinon took over the family estate in 2015, both after successful engineering careers. Catherine and Jerome have brought new energy and perspective, taking the estate in new directions in both the vineyard and the cellar, while at adhering to the family tradition of crafting fresh and elegant wines. The estate consists of 20 hectares of vines planted to Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris on hillside vineyards of clay and limestone soils. All vines are farmed sustainably.

The Château Hostin Le Roc is made primarily from Merlot, with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon and expertly shows the amazing quality to value ratio in Bordeaux if you know where to look. In the glass the wine displays and alluring bright ruby color. The nose is awash in aromas of fresh red fruits: cherry, raspberry, cassis and red plum, all intermingled with an enticing spice undertone and mineral note of baked clay. On the palate, the Hostin Le Roc is absolutely brilliant: chock full of fresh, juicy fruit flavors with soft, luxuriant tannins, a refreshing acidity and complex meld of fruit, spice and earth flavors which effortlessly flow into an energetic and delicious finish. This is the perfect barbecue wine; easy to drink on its own, refreshing and a great pairing with cheeseburgers, hot dogs, sausages, assorted veggies and chicken.
