Description

The vineyards of Fourcas were first referenced on a map designed by Pierre de Belleyme, who was the geographical engineer of Louis XV. In 1843, the lawyer Jean Baptiste Antoine Dupré, a member of the Bordeaux Appeal Court, acquired the land, added his name to the estate and Château Fourcas Dupré was born. The vineyard is located on the plateau of Listrac — known as the toit du Médoc ("rooftop of the Médoc") — which, at 42 meters, is the highest vineyard elevation in the region, and covers 47.2 hectares on soils of Pyrenean gravel, along with clay, chalk and clay-limestone subsoils. Fourcas Dupré has received Level 1 HVE (High Environmental Value) certification (with full certification scheduled in 2023) by reducing chemical treatments, mechanical weeding and using organic fertilizers, all of which allow the vineyard's biodiversity and soil life to flourish.

Château Fourcas Dupré is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 1/3 of which is new. In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby color with purple highlights. Magnificent aromas of blackberry, boysenberry and cassis intermingle with subtle notes of sweet spice and oak which combine to create a most pleasing bouquet. The palate delivers fine, mouthcoating tannins that deliver an elegance and balance to the refreshing concentration of black fruit flavors that flow into a finish with depth, persistence and panache. This is a stunning Left Bank Bordeaux that is absolutely perfect for the fall weather and more hearty cuisine of the season. You can enjoy the wine tonight, though there is enough structure and richness that you could easily enjoy a bottle in 10+ years.
