The Teycheney family have been winegrowers in Bordeaux since 1837 when Pierre Roux bought his first few hectares of vines. Pierre's son, Albert, started the family's first commercial winery — Château la Loubière — in the 1930's. Today, the family's multiple estates are managed under the name Vignobles Jade and run by Caroline Teycheney. Château Fontfleurie was established in 2018 when Vignobles Jade purchased the two Saint-Émilion plots that now comprise the estate. The vineyards, totaling 17 hectares, are planted to Merlot and Cabernet Franc and are organically and biodynamically farmed. Jean-Claude Berrouet, renowned winemaker behind the success of Château Petrus in Pomerol and Dominus Estate in Napa Valley, is the head oenologist at Château Fontfleurie, lending his style of elegance, nuance and finesse for which he is so well known.
The 2019 Château Fontfleurie is a blend of 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc, aged for 18 months in cask and barrels (30% new oak) and 16% in amphora. The wine pours a deep ruby red, emitting ripe aromas of dark red fruits with a light note of earth and a touch of dried flowers. Medium-bodied, the Fontfleurie is soft and lush on the attack with flavors of supple cherry and macerated raspberries that envelop a fine mineral core. Highlighted by ethereal acidity and inviting tannins, these fruit flavors carry through an elegant, seemingly endless finish. Pair with duck confit, lamb stew or anything from your favorite BBQ joint.
