Description

Fontarèche was first mentioned in a deed from 984, and over the ensuing years, has been an important property in Corbières. Today, the estate is owned by the Lamy family and consists of 145 hectares of vineyards on a former terrace of the Orbieu river, rooted in gravelly soil with many surface pebbles. 17 different grape varieties are planted, with Carignan being the most important, with the oldest vines planted in 1962. All vines are grown sustainably with an eye towards the health of the vineyards. Château Fontarèche aims to produce wines that are affordable, consistent and rooted in quality.

The Château Fontarèche Vieilles Vignes is a blend of Carignan, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache. In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet color with aromas of soft black fruits and spice. The palate showcases great density built around firm, yet elegant tannins and concentrated fruit flavors buttressed by a distinct minerality. The finish is impeccable balanced with a light, airy character that adds brightness to the fresh fruit flavors. Enjoy with grilled sea bass stuffed with fennel or aged Munster cheese.
