Château Dauzac is ranked as a Cinquièmes Cru, or 5th Growth, in the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux. The Château is famous for its vineyards being the testing ground for what became known as the "Bordeaux Mixture" (a mix of copper sulfate and lime) used to combat downy mildew in the 1850's. Today the Château and its estate are committed to help restore biodiversity in the region through its arboretum, orchards and meadows. There is a particular emphasis on the population of bees and in 2015 the estate and its bee-keepers produced the first harvest of acacia honey!
Located in the commune of Margaux, Château Dauzac produces wines based primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon. Dauzac does an excellent job of balancing fruit, spice, minerality and floral flavors on both the nose and the palate. The wines have an elegance about them and a complex, chewy mouthfeel. This a fabulous wine to enjoy with game birds.
