Charles Père et Fille - "Clos de la Cave" Volnay 2019

Charles Père et Fille is a family estate located in Nantoux, and have been grape-growers and winemakers in Burgundy for several generations. However, it wasn't until 1960, when the domaine started estate-bottling its wines, that they began to make a name for themselves. Everything at the estate is of the highest quality, from the work in the vineyards to the cellar and beyond. Pascal Charles and his daughter, Pauline, work diligently to ensure their wines are of true representations of the terroir in which they are grown.

The Volnay "Clos de la Cave" pours a striking mid-ruby with garnet highlights. Subtle and precise floral notes with cherry and red cassis impress upon the nose, and after a few swirls in the glass, they really start to jump out, arresting your attention. On the palate, the wine is ethereal. It has a medium body, silky tannins and a lifted acidity that gives you a feeling like drinking a cloud: soft and lush in texture with a distinct airiness. The finish is sublime, perfectly encapsulating the delicate floral and red fruit flavors which seem to drift away. This Volnay is exquisite, a true gourmand wine. Enjoy with roast lamb or roast chicken.
