Pauline Collin Bérêche is the seventh generation of her family to tend vines in the Montagne de Reims, working six hectares in Ludes and Mailly that have been organically farmed for over a generation. After honing her craft at Ruinart and Krug, Pauline launched her own project in 2016 with a clear vision: to capture the essence of Ludes’ chalk-rich terroir. Her philosophy is refreshingly simple and bold: one year, one terroir, one wine. With her laser focus, top-tier vineyard sites and extensive winemaking experience, Pauline is building something truly remarkable.
For her 2019 Ludes Premier Cru, Pauline evolved her blend to include Chardonnay and a generous splash of the rare and aromatic Pinot Meslier, which has an incredible ability to retain acidity even in the hottest vintages and add a beautiful layer of lift and complexity. This Champagne is a soaring, high-toned wine that is immediately alluring right out of the gate. Notes of apricot and green apple intertwine with hints of chamomile, mint, spiced almond and tangerine zest. A gorgeous Champagne that is so fine, this wine coasts to an impossibly long, crushed chalk finish.
