The Balgera winery is one of the longest-standing wine producers in the Valtellina wine region of Lombardy. Five generations have been crafting wines from the noble Nebbiolo grape since Pietro Balgera founded the estate in 1885. The property is comprised of ten hectares of vineyards planted solely to Nebbiolo in alluvial-gravelly soils rich with silica. Today, the estate is managed by brothers Luca and Matteo Balgera with help from their father Paolo, who helped usher the winery into the modern age. Together, they safeguard the secrets and traditional values established by Pietro since the estate’s inception.
Balgera’s 450 Rosso di Valtellina is crafted to be enjoyed fresh and young without sacrificing the elegance and balance that are hallmarks of Balgera’s flagship wines. Pale garnet in color, this 100% Nebbiolo offers mouthwatering aromas of spiced red and black berry and stone fruits accented with hints of purple flowers and dried herbs. The palate is light and vibrant with flavors of red plum, cherry and raspberries intertwined with notes of peppery spice and crushed stone. These flavors are buttressed by a delicate acidity and soft tannins which help lead this wine to a finish characterized by length and finesse. Enjoy with hard, aged cheeses and cured meats, wild mushroom risotto or homemade sausage pizza.
