Azienda Agricola Scarzello Giorgio e Figli - Langhe Nebbiolo 2023

Azienda Agricola Scarzello Giorgio e Figli is a family-owned estate situated in the historic village of Barolo in the heart of the Langhe in Piedmont. The Scarzello family's viticultural roots can be traced back generations, though the modern winery emerged in the years following WWII, when the family began producing and selling wine from its vineyards. In 1978, the estate took a pivotal step by bottling under its own label, laying the foundation for the winery as it exists today. The estate is currently owned and managed by Federico Scarzello, who oversees approximately 5.5 hectares of vineyards, including holdings in the esteemed Sarmassa, Terlo, and Paiagallo Crus. While Nebbiolo is their principal varietal, Scarzello also cultivates Barbera and some small plantings of other traditional Piedmontese varieties. The vineyards are rooted in the region's classic calcareous marl and clay-rich soils, whose limestone content contributes to the structure, aromatic complexity, and longevity for which Barolo is celebrated.

Both in the vineyard and cellar, Scarzello is guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention and respect for tradition. Sustainable farming practices, hand-tended vineyard work and careful attention to soil health allow each site to express its individual character. In the winery, fermentations are conducted with native yeasts and lengthy macerations, while aging takes place primarily in large oak botti rather than small barrels. This traditional approach preserves the purity of fruit and the nuances of terroir, resulting in wines that are unmistakably Barolo: structured, yet elegant… deeply expressive… and capable of rewarding years of cellaring, all while remaining faithful to the heritage of the Langhe.
