Anselmo Mendes - "Contacto" Alvarinho 2024

As a child growing up in Monção, Portugal, Anselmo Mendes familiarized himself with the culture of the vine and wine production, focusing on the local Alvarinho variety. In 1998, he started producing wine with Alvarinho grapes in the Minho Valley, and since then Anselmo Mendes and Alvarinho have become synonymous. He has been lauded by critics from across the wine world as one of the greatest winemakers in Portugal and the most innovative producer of Vinho Verde. He makes wines from Alvarinho in the Minho Valley, Loureiro in the Lima Valley and Avesso in the Douro Valley.

Anselmo Mendes' Alvarinho Contacto is made from 100% Alvarinho grown in vineyards along the Minho river, at low altitudes, with a high content of pebbles in the soil. All grapes are destemmed and given a short skin maceration, followed by a slow fermentation at low temperatures. The wine exhibits clean tropical and citrus fruit flavors with a stony mineral finish. It is full-bodied with great structure and balance. Enjoy with squid, octopus or tuna.
