Fratelli Broccardo has been a family estate since 1940’s, though it wasn’t until the 21st century they began selling their estate wine commercially. Today, the third generation manages their thirteen hectares of vineyards in the Langhe, Monforte d'Alba, Barolo and Novello where they grow Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Arneis. In addition to Ravera, Broccardo also makes Barolo from the Bricco San Pietro, I Tre Pais, and Paiagallo Cru sites.
The Ravera is 100% Nebbiolo from 25-year-old vines grown on soils of limestone and clay. The fruit was hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel, then macerated for 20 days. It was then racked to a combination of new and old 35hl Slavonian and French oak botti, where it aged for 24 months. The result is mid-ruby in color, with aromas of ripe plums, berries, herbs and a hint of spice. Full-bodied, rich pie cherry notes laced with woody herbs are framed by firm tannins and a savory finish. Give this wine a little time to open up and drink now, or cellar for another 10+ years.
