Château Sainte Croix Vin de Pays du Var
Rosé
2020
Provence, France
13% ABV
Regular Price: $11

With the spring weather taking hold, it's about time to get some Provence rosé in the fridge! Sipping on a great Provençal rosé can transport you to the Mediterranean: A salty breeze in the air, the sun beaming on your face, the feeling of sand between your toes... And the best wines to take you there are from Chateau Sainte Croix; specifically their Vin de Pays du Var rosé!

This is the sixth vintage that we've worked with Stéphane Pélépol, proprietor of Château Sainte Croix. I met Stéphane through Gérald Lafont — one half of the Rhône dream team, Olivier & Lafont — back in 2016 while I was visiting producers in southern France. To this day, whenever I see Gérald, I thank him for the introduction, because the Sainte Croix wines have become some of the most popular rosés in the shop. The wines are everything a Provençal rosé should be — rich, yet refreshing with irresistible nuances of flavor. It is as close to perfection as you can get!

Do not miss out on what I believe is one of the best values to be found from the rosé capital of the world!

Four Generations
Established in 1927, Château Sainte Croix sits on 50 hectares in the town of Carcès. Family-owned for four generations, the estate was a former fortress built in the 12th century by Cistercian monks. After being purchased by the Pélépol family in 1924, the property stopped contributing grapes to the Carcès cooperative and began making their own wine three short years later. The vineyards are deeply rooted in clayey-calcareous soils that are mixed with sandy deposits. (Side note: the photograph here is the first selfie picture I ever took!)

Something For Everyone
One of my favorite things about the rosé wines from Château Sainte Croix is that they have something for everyone: fruit intensity, minerality, vibrancy, freshness, concentration and texture. As an added bonus, the wines are incredibly versatile: perfect for sipping on a sunny afternoon or pairing with a wide range of foods from roasted vegetables with aioli to whole-grilled fish. The Château Sainte Croix Vin de Pays du Var is a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 20% Merlot. Light pink in color with a clear, water white rim, this beautiful rosé emits pristine aromas of white peach, raspberries and candied pineapple. On the palate, the wine is light bodied and fruity with a refreshing minerality and bright, energetic finish. Enjoy with a Provençal salad or a warm evening with friends and family.
