2009 Paitin di Pasquero-Elia - Paitin Barbera "Campolive"
The Barbera from the venerable estate, Paitin, is sourced from the Campolive vineyard, located at the base of the Babaresco hillside called Serra Boella. The vineyard has excellent exposure; south-southwest. The soil is classic Langhe soil, white, mineral soil, generally reserved for Barbaresco. However, the base of the hill is the warmest, thus perfect for Barbera. The mineral character of the soil lends great complexity and structure to the inherently fruity wine. The wine is barrel-aged for 18 months. The 2003 is a powerful vintage, filled with aromas and flavors of baking spices and dark-red berries. The wine is high-toned and long on the palate, perfect with a variety of dishes, including grilled meat and sheep cheeses. |
