2009 Chateau de Novi - Gavi
The Gavi DOCG is situated in the southern part of Piedmont, in northwest Italy. The white wines from this DOCG area is considered Piedmont’s white crown jewel and is sometimes called " the red wine lovers, white wine" for its hearty characteristics. Gavi was Italy’s first white wine to gain international reputation and was granted its DOCG status in 1998. Made exclusively from Cortese, a varietal that has been cultivated in Piedmontese vineyards since the mid 1600. Azienda Agricola Laura Valditerra was founded in the early 1960's and is widely considered one of the most innovative producers of Gavi. For the Chateau de Novi Gavi, Laura Valditerra used grapes harvested from their best vineyards situated on the hills around Monterotondo. This wonderful wine has a warm, flinty nose that precedes a full-bodied, rich palate of ripe fruit and almonds that is concentrated and persistent. The Cortese grape's moderate acidity and light flavors has made it a favorite among Italian restaurants as a wine pairing with local seafood dishes or as an aperitif alongside fresh Focaccia bread.
