2007 Azienda Fratelli Urciuolo - Monte Faliesi Taurasi
Monte Faliesi is a joint venture with Fratelli Urciuolo, a family winery based in Campania. The winery is situated at the foot of Mount Faliesi. The characteristics of the land, its history, and climate contribute to unique wines with strong personality. The mountainous territory is one of the most important areas of development and distribution of wine in the world. Only the highest-quality grapes grown at an elevation of 550 meters are used in the production of Taurasi. The vineyards are located near Avellino where the soil is mostly clay with calcareous marls and volcanic deposits, credited for providing a tannic bite and smokiness to the wine. There are 6 hectares under vine at a density of 3500 vines/hectare using the spurred cordon training system. On the nose and palate, it is evident that this is a powerful wine. It is full-bodied with a large structure, yet maintains a certain finesse. The fruit flavors are primarily black raspberries, plums and dark cherries. This wine stands up well to hearty fare, like roasted or braised red meats. Try with pizza as well, the traditional dish of the Campania region. |
