The Sastre brothers own 40 hectares of tempranillo, as well as some cabernet sauvignon and merlot they use to make a rosado. The estate's best wines, labeled Pago de Santa Cruz, come from a 12-hectare parcel of low-yielding 59-year-old vines, but most of the estate's other vines currently in production are now at least 35 years old. Deep red. Explosively rich bouquet of blackcurrant, boysenberry, cherry liqueur, smoked meat and licorice. Deep, inky and brooding, the dark fruit flavors showing porty depth and richness but given lift and precision by a captivating mineral quality. The endless finish features silky tannins and compelling sweetness. A remarkable wine recommended to anyone who can find and afford it. |
